Concept | Gender |
Description | Detailed description of the gender of an individual. |
Use | Use to record the individual's gender, including administrative and legal gender and anatomical sex, in addition to gender identity, expression and preferred pronoun. This archetype has been designed to be used within an ENTRY archetype where relevant, for example within OBSERVATION.story, INSTRUCTION.laboratory_test or CLUSTER.interpreter. The ambition of this archetype is to allow to register a broader range of details connected to the gender of an individual, due to modern thinking of gender as well as new knowledge of psychological, biological and social manifestations of gender. This archetype allows also the recording and differentiation between legal and administrative gender. In most use cases the administrative gender will be used, as equivalent of the traditional definition of "Sex" in legacy systems. This archetype can later be expanded to include information on areas not yet commonly used, or can be added in the SLOT for additional structured details about the individual's gender. |
Misuse | Not to be used for recording information relating to sexual orientation or practice of an individual. Not to be used for recording genetic sex. Currently this is usually recorded as either a diagnosis or a laboratory test result. Value sets for 'Genetic sex' are not yet well defined and may involve the combination of information axes, including chromosomal and receptor data, mosaic variants and diagnoses. |
Purpose | To record the gender of an individual. |
