ARCHETYPE Unit transfusion management (openEHR-EHR-ACTION.unit_transfusion_management.v0)

ARCHETYPE IDopenEHR-EHR-ACTION.unit_transfusion_management.v0
ConceptUnit transfusion management
DescriptionProcedure to transfer a unit of blood or its components from a donor to a recipient to replace missing blood elements.
Use

Use to record a unit blood transfusion procedure.

Additional structured and detailed information about the transfusion can be captured using purpose-specific archetypes inserted into the 'Additional details' slot, where required.
More specific information about a whole transfusion of several blood product transfused can be captured using the archetype ACTION.whole_transfusion_management.v0

Specific timings related to a transfusion can be managed in one of two ways:

  • Using the reference model - the time for performance of any pathway step will use the ACTION time attribute for each step.
  • Archetyped data elements:
--> 'Scheduled date/time' data element is intended to record the precise time when the transfusion is planned. Note: the corresponding ACTION time attribute for the 'Transfusion scheduled' step will record the time that the transfusion was scheduled into a system, not the intended date/time on which the transfusion is intended to be carried out.
MisuseNot to be used to record the action of a complete transfusion that may include several units. Use the ACTION.whole_transfusion_management.v0 archetype for this purpose. Not to be used to record the order for a transfusion. Use the INSTRUCTION.service_request.v1 archetype for this purpose. Not to be used to record other types of transfusions (Bone Marrow Transfusions (Transplants), Stem Cell Transfusions, Immunoglobulin Therapy, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections and Clotting Factor Concentrates). When used in conjunction with the CLUSTER.transfusion_unit archetype, ensure that there is no redundant information.
PurposeTo record details about the procedure of a transfusion of a blood product unit.
