| Concept | Irradiation |
| Description | Detailed information about the irradiation in radiotherapy. |
| Use | To record information about the radiotherapy of a target region with a specific dose. This archetype is designed to represent specific details of a radiotherapy process. This archetype should be used in the 'Procedure detail' SLOT in the ACTION.procedure archetype. |
| Misuse | Not to be used to represent information about the activities required to perform a radiotherapy procedure. Use the ACTION.archetype 'Procedure' for this purpose. Not to be used to represent radiation exposure as the entirety of all environmental factors to which a person may be exposed. |
| Purpose | To record the details of a radiotherapy of a cancer patient for curative or palliative reasons. |

| Target region | Target region: The target region that was irradiated, e.g. pancreas. The terminology encoding of the target region is preferred. Use this data element to record the pre-identified anatomical location. If it's required to document the targeted region during the time of application, or more complicated modelling is required, such as relative location, then use the CLUSTER.anatomical_location or CLUSTER.relative_location within the SLOT 'Target region details' in this archetype. |
| Target region details | Target region details: Specific structured information on the target region that was irradiated. Use this slot to insert CLUSTER.anatomical_location or CLUSTER.anatomical_location_relative archetypes if it's required to document the target region during the time of application, or when more complicated modelling, such as relative positions, is needed. If the anatomical location is included in the 'target region' field via pre-existing codes, the use of this slot might be redundant. Include: openEHR-EHR-CLUSTER.anatomical_ |
| Start | Start: The date, on which the radiotherapy of the target region was started. |
| End | End: The date, on which the radiotherapy of the target region was ended. |
| Treatment method | Treatment method: Description of the technical procedure. Depending on how the radiation penetrates the body, different methods of irradiation are distinguished.
|
| Application type | Application type: Irradiation technique, as a further classification of the treatment method. The techniques of irradiation are diverse. If possible, encoding with a terminology is preferred. |
| Type of radiation | Type of radiation: Type of radiation according to its components. More than one radiation type can be selected. Choice of:
|
| Single dose | Single dose: The single dose used to irradiated the target region. The dose refers to the prescribed isodose (equal energy or ion dose on a line or area). |
| Dose (ED) | Dose (ED): The value of the single dose. Example: When specifying radiation dose 3.0 Gy, the value is '3.0'. Property: Qualified real Units: 0.0..999.999 |
| Unit (ED) | Unit (ED): The unit in which the single dose was specified. The individual dose in radiation therapy is usually recorded in grays (Gy) and less frequently in gigabequerels (GBq). For a radiation dose of '3.0 Gy', the unit for the dose is 'Gy'. For a radiation dose of '2.6 GBq', the unit for the dose is 'GBq'.
|
| Total dose | Total dose: The total dose used to irradiate the
target region. The total dose is composed of several individual doses (fractions). For example: 30.0 Gy can be administered in 10 fractions of 3.0 Gy each. |
| Dose (SD) | Dose (SD): The value of the total dose. Example: When indicating radiation dose of 30.0 Gy, the value is '30.0'. Property: Qualified real Units: 0.0..999.999 |
| Unit (SD) | Unit (SD): The unit in which the total dose was
specified. The individual dose in radiation therapy is usually recorded in grays (Gy) and less frequently in gigabequerels (GBq). For a radiation dose of '30.0 Gy', the unit for the dose is 'Gy'. For a radiation dose of '26.0 GBq', the unit for the dose is 'GBq'.
|
| Number of dose fractions | Number of dose fractions: The number of fractions (individual doses) to which the total dose was allocated. |
| Fraction | Fraction: Details on the individual fractions. For better tolerability, the radiation is usually divided into many small individual doses, these are called fractions. |
| Sequence number of the fraction | Sequence number of the fraction: The order of the fraction within the sequence of fractions of a target area irradiation. |
| Date | Date: The date on which the fraction was
applied. The individual irradiation (fraction) usually takes place on a separate day or several individual irradiations can take place on one day (hyper-fractionated irradiation). |
| Comment | Comment: Supplementary description for the fraction that was not recorded in other areas. |
| Imaging/radiation planning | Imaging/radiation planning: Structured information about the
imaging and/or radiation plan. A radiation plan is an image data-set with 100 -120 three-dimensional images. Include: openEHR-EHR-CLUSTER.media_ |
| Toxicity | Toxicity: Clinical symptoms and/or signs observed as side effects, or considered related to the irradiation of the target region. Toxicity can be expressed in the single word, phrase or in a short description. For example: Nausea, isolated skin redness. 'No side effects' may also be appropriate if no toxic effect was observed during and after irradiation. 'Toxicity' should be encoded with a terminology if possible. Common terminologies include the CTCAE, MedDRA codes, in addition to SNOMED-CT and ICD10. |
| Specific details | Specific details: Specific structured information on the irradiation of the target region. For example, specific detailed information on an application technique, such as boost irradiation for teletherapy or brachytherapy; or radiation type and/or quality and other specific information of a target region irradiation. Include: All not explicitly excluded archetypes |
